Global LCD Panels Loss About $ 13 billion Within 6 Years

It is estimated that from 2004 to 2010, manufacturers for LCD panels lost about $ 13 billion actually. Analysts Moore (Alberto Moel) called this " the big shift of value from shareholders to the consumer." Obviously, this situation can not be continued, big restructuring will come.At present, Samsung and LG dominate.Japanese companies produce a large number of panels, but too many companies, each share is too small to create economies of scale to reduce costs and compete with others with financing investment. Therefore, Japanese companies gradually go downhill. China and Taiwan manufacturers develop with large-scale and high-quality, which makes the competitors in s dilemma  , although they themselves are only occasionally profitable.
Integration may be significant, especially for Japanese companies. It is said that Toshiba and Sony will merge operations of small and medium-sized LCDs which they get $ 1 billion as supports from government. The Government of Japan will account for 75% of the shares. The question is they can not be sustained with joint, companies need state support to complete the integration. If integration fails, or out of business before the problem surfaced,if Japanese taxpayers are willing to pay for this risk,if the government itself can become controlled of business.
In order to stay ahead of industry technology, Sharp investments a lot, new production lines have expanded panel size. Once upon a time, this is significant, each generation can help reduce nearly half of the cost. But panel has reached a critical size and is unprofitable, because consumers do not want so big panel. Now Sharp makes adjustment approach and begin to create more small-sized LCD panel, which is used tablet PCs and mobile phones. As a result, Sharp and Hitachi, Toshiba - Sony-INCJ (Innovation Network Corporation of Japan) joint venture will compete, the market is still in dire straits. Sharp is also considering an alliance with Chi Mei, Chi Mei is a division of Taiwan's Hon Hai, which produces 20-40 inch medium-sized panel. Sony has sold TV factories to Hon Hai factory . There are also reports that Hitachi and Hon Hai are under negotiations.
