Three Ways To Decrease Prices Of LED Chips

While LED lights have development in full swing in domestic, indoor lighting has become the focus of the industry, although indoor lighting is less popular than LED lights, but it has bright future. While LED lighting is popular in markets, indoor lighting has larger markets than outdoor lighting, LED has unparalleled advantages in indoor lighting over other light sources.In terms of domestic market, the price is too high, most people still can not afford that.Main cost of LED lighting is the LED chip, the price of LED per lumen can reduced to the same one as per energy-saving lamps as long as chip prices decrease, LED chip has much room for price cuts, at least there are three ways as following.
1. Continue to improve light efficiency.
2. toward the big chip and high-current.
Now the chip is generally between 0.5mm to 1.5mm, the lower uminous efficiency, the larger chip, the current can not be increased if the chip is not big,this is the main problem for LED to develop towards high power LED.Towards the development of a large chip,it means making large chip to pass more current under no decreasing light efficiency, so that single LED power significantly increased (relative to the current 1W), so that the light sources of LED will be reduced to help decrease the cost of lighting.
3. Develop new substrate materials
Now materials of the power LED chips are sapphire substrate or SiC which are very expensive and are monopolized by large foreign companies, it leads to high prices of chips.To break international patent barriers, China has launched a Si substrate materials research and has some progress.The LEDs with Si will have lower prices, because the Si substrate is cheaper than sapphire and SiC substrates, and can produce larger substrates than sapphire and SiC substrate to enhance MOCVD utilization,thereby increasing the yield of the die. And the Si substrate is conductive substrate, electrodes can elicit from both sides of the die, so this can not only reduce the die area,but also eliminate dry etching on the GaN epitaxial layer. Besides, because the hardness of silicon is lower than sapphire and SiC, it is good to save costs in process. It is estimated that It will be lower 90% to use silicon substrate to make blue GaN LED than sapphire and SiC substrate than 90% lower.
With the rapid decline in chip prices, more and more people will accept LEDs, so now it is the time for companys to do the construction of technical reserves to dominate the market.Maturity and price of Indoor LED lightings are not good to develop,the real market is the overseas market, because the cost of light is high, there is a great demand for indoor lightings,then, because of the related energy legislation and supports from government. Domestically,the indoor lightings will account for 40% in semiconductors in the next three to five years with the development of the upstream chip.
